Jan 14, 2010 Emotional Stress and Cancer
Emotional stress may trigger growth of tumors.
The UK's Telegraph (1/14, Alleyne) reports that "everyday emotional stress is a trigger for the growth of tumors," according to research appearing in the journal Nature. Researchers found that "any sort of trauma, emotional or physical, can act as a 'pathway' between cancerous mutations, bringing them together in a potentially deadly mix." The findings challenge previous theories that "more than one cancer-causing mutation needed to take place in a single cell in order for tumors to grow."

HealthDay (1/13, Dotinga) reported that researchers found that "cancer-causing mutations can work together, even when they're in different cells." In fact, "it is much easier for a tissue to accumulate mutations in different cells than in the same cell."
